Product Tip: Deploying Globalscape EFT in the Cloud

Did you know that you can take Globalscape EFT to the cloud? Some of our customers have asked us to create a secure portal "in the cloud" for partners, customers, and remote users.

One way to do this is to install Globalscape EFT on a virtual machine hosted on Microsoft Azure. Through this solution, our customers gain the on-premises benefits of security, visibility, automation and governance — without incurring the typical infrastructure costs.

What is Azure?

Microsoft Azure is a cloud-computing platform and infrastructure created by Microsoft, for building, deploying, and managing applications and services through a global network of Microsoft-managed and Microsoft partner-hosted datacenters. Our Professional Services team has assisted many of our customers with this sort of virtual deployment of Globalscape EFT.

How does Globalscape EFT on Azure work?

In Azure, you can create a virtual machine with the Windows operating system of your choice, such as Windows Server 2012. Then you install and configure Globalscape EFT (as a single server) and any Globalscape EFT modules that you have licensed. After Globalscape EFT is installed and configured, you can connect to it as you would any other Globalscape EFT installation. During the Azure setup, you configure the DNS location to which users and other servers can connect, such as "myeftserveronazure.com."

Can I create the Globalscape EFT-Azure installation myself?

Creating a virtual machine in Azure requires some experience with configuring Internet services, defining secure portals, and so on. You don't want to open up your internal network to just anyone; you need to open only secure ports with properly configured security certificates and other protections. You also need to know how to allow access to the virtual Globalscape EFT from your internal network. This is where the expertise comes in.

Other cloud deployment options for Globalscape MFT

Amazon Web Services: Some of our customers have installed Globalscape EFT on virtual machines hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

MFTaaS: Globalscape also offers our own Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) hosting options for Globalscape EFT called EFT Arcus. If you choose our Globalscape EFT Cloud Services, our Professional Services team and hosting providers set up the infrastructure, install software updates, define event rules, and set up network security.

EFT Arcus is entirely in the cloud and provides the compliance and efficiency you expect from an on-premises MFT solution without the overhead. Gain the security of MFT with the flexibility of the cloud.
